പെര്‍ത്ത്: റോഡ് യാത്രയ്ക്കിടെ ട്രക്കില്‍ നിന്നു തെറിച്ചു പോയ ആണവ ഉപകരണം കണ്ടെത്തി. റേഡിയോ ആക്ടിവ് പദാര്‍ഥം അടങ്ങിയ കാപ്സ്യൂള്‍ വലുപ്പമുള്ള ഉപകരണം ഗ്രേറ്റ് നോര്‍ത്തേണ്‍ ഹൈവേയിലെ ന്യൂമാന്‍ എന്ന ഖനന നഗരത്തിന് തെക്കുഭാഗത്താണ് കണ്ടെത്തിയത്.

ഇരുമ്പ് അയിരിന്റെ സാന്ദ്രത അളക്കുന്നതിന് ഉപയോഗിക്കുന്ന റേഡിയോ ആക്ടിവ് ഐസോടോപ്പ് ആയ സീഷ്യം~137 അടങ്ങിയ കാപ്സ്യൂളാണ് 1400 കിലോമീറ്റര്‍ നീണ്ട യാത്ര.്ക്കിടെ നഷ്ടമായത്. ജനുവരി 12 ന് ഖനിയില്‍നിന്ന് പെര്‍ത്തിലെ റേഡിയേഷന്‍ സ്റേറാറേജിലേക്ക് കൊണ്ടുപോവുന്ന വഴിയായിരുന്നു ഇത്. ജനുവരി 16 ന് കണ്ടെയ്നര്‍ പെര്‍ത്തില്‍ എത്തിയെങ്കിലും ജനുവരി 25 ന് തുറന്ന് നോക്കിയപ്പോഴാണ് കാപ്സ്യൂള്‍ നഷ്ടമായ വിവരം അറിഞ്ഞത്.

ആറ് ദിവസത്തോളം 1400 കിലോമീറ്റര്‍ ഹൈവേയില്‍ റേഡിയേഷന്‍ ഡിറ്റക്ടര്‍ ഉള്‍പ്പെടെയുള്ള ഉപകരണങ്ങള്‍ ഉപയോഗിച്ച് നടത്തിയ തിരച്ചിലിനൊടുവിലാണ് കാപ്സ്യൂള്‍ കണ്ടെത്തിയത്. മുന്‍കരുതലുകളില്ലാതെ ഉപയോഗിച്ചാല്‍ അര്‍ബുദത്തിനുവരെ കാരണമാകുന്ന തരം വികിരണമാണ് ഇതിലുള്ളത്.
